What’s Been Happening at RED C this June
Apartment Sandi:
Our third apartment will be ready to rent in August, just in time for the Autumn season. The perfect time for a visit to Dahab; the air temperature is in the mid 30Cs (a bit cooler than the 40C heat of summer) and a lovely water temperature of around 25C.
Apartment Sandi offers an open plan kitchen and living area with comfy sofas and flat screen TV. The master bedroom has a private sea view balcony and an en suite bathroom that features a walk-in shower. The second bedroom can be kitted out with twin beds or a super king double. The second bathroom has a sunken bath, perfect for kids.
We’ve been getting artistic and have made some beach art piece for Sandi’s living room, they offer a bit of contrast from the photographs which Graeme Fordham has given us for our other apartments. Please let us know what you think.

Gonna Be A Hot Summer – Our pool is the perfect place to chill:
It’s really hotting up here, with temperatures exceeding 40C. Our guests are almost permanently chilling out in the pool during the middle of the day. Those that dive are spending as much time under the water as possible – the sea is 26C and warming up fast, it’s time to put the wetsuit away and dive in just boardies and a rash vest.
The pool is now 31C, and the spa pool is 34C; so it’s time to dial down our Pro Dahab Solar Heating System, the timer will now run for 4 hours in the afternoon to warm the spa pool for our guests that love to have a drink in the pool of an evening. This season – our drink of choice is Gin & Tonic, we find a slice of cucumber really adds a special something.
RED C Cat:
A stray cat has recently made her home with us at RED C and our guests are welcoming her with a few titbits and leftovers. We have some teachers from Cairo staying with us at the moment who are calling her Boots, cos she’s got 4 white feet.
Give us some more name ideas.
Ramadan Kareem to our Muslim friends!
The lanterns seen around Dahab during Ramadan are called ‘fanous’ in Arabic. The tradition is thought to have originated in Egypt during the Fatimid period (909-1170CE), and spread from Egypt to other countries in the Arab world.
There’s a story that in 972 CE the Fatimid Caliph Al-Moez’s made a trip to Cairo during Ramadan. It is said that the ancient Cairenes went out to celebrate his arrival holding torches and lanterns, ever since then Ramadan has been associated with the ‘fanous’. Apparently children used to go out at night with their lanterns and light the way for the Caliph as he walked around Cairo and sing songs to celebrate the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan.
